Course Information
Description A study of major issues in philosophy and/or the work of major philosophical figures in philosophy. Topics in philosophy may include theories of reality, theories of knowledge, theories of value, and their practical applications.

Course Policies
Instructor Policies

The student must log onto Blackboard and access the course a minimum of three times per week. For instruction that takes place in the state and federal prison units, this does not hold, and access will be with instructor during schedule class hours.

2. Cheating of any kind will not be tolerated.

3. The student is responsible for initiating and completing the drop process. Students who stop coming to class and fail to drop the course will earn an ‘F’ in the course.

4. Belligerent, abusive, profane, threatening, and /or inappropriate behavior on the part of students is a violation of the Student Conduct Regulations. Students who are found guilty of such misconduct may be subject to immediate dismissal from the institution. In addition, these violations of state law may also be subject to criminal action beyond the disciplinary process.

5. Late work will be considered only in the case of a documentable emergency beyond the student’s control. Late/make-up work may be accepted solely at the instructor’s discretion.
Attendance Policy  Drops: If you are absent three times in a row, TDC rules state that you may be dropped; you will thereby sacrifice the opportunity to enroll in any college courses for one year. “Absence” in the context of online/correspondence instruction will consist of your lack of meeting at scheduled times with the program proctor.

COVID 19 Information The Lamar State College Port Arthur (LSCPA) Student Code of Conduct COVID 19 Policy requires students who have been diagnosed with COVID 19 to report their condition directly to their local health department. Students should also contact their course faculty to report their quarantine status. In addition, this policy requires all students to wear face coverings when directly exposed to COVID 19 in compliance with the criteria included in the policy. Facility Policies No food or tobacco products are allowed in the classroom. Only students enrolled in the course are allowed in the classroom, except by special instructor permission. Use of electronic devices is prohibited.
HB 2504 This syllabus is part of LSCPA's efforts to comply with Texas House Bill 2504.
Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse and Neglect As per Texas law and LSCPA policy, all LSCPA employees, including faculty, are required to report allegations or disclosures of child abuse or neglect to the designated authorities, which may include a local or state law enforcement agency or the Texas Department of Family Protective Services. Title IX and Sexual Misconduct LSCPA is committed to establishing and maintaining an environment that is free from all forms of sex discrimination, including sexual harassment, sexual violence, and other forms of sexual misconduct.
